Downhill Skiing

Morzine is at the heart of a wonderful ski area, with skiing suitable for all ages and levels of skiing. You could spend all day happily in any one of the following areas, and you can reach them all from the flat with a short walk to the lift. It is possible to ski several separate circuits round the resort, in addition to staying in one area.

Pleney – Les Gets – Mont Chery
This area is reached from the Pleney ski lift, about 8 minutes from the flat in ski boots but also accessible by navette (local free bus) or car (lots of car parking in town – at a cost). Morzine ski schools operate on the Pleney and there are some easy runs back to the town through the trees, plus some more challenging skiing above Les Gets and Mont Chery.

Super Morzine – Avoriaz
Reached from the Super Morzine ski lift, also about 8 minutes walk from the flat in ski boots. Avoriaz offers the highest skiing in the Portes du Soleil and the snow is usually very reliable here even if lower parts of the resort are getting slushy or bare late in the season.

Plains Dranse – Linga – Chatel
Reached from the Super Morzine ski lift or from the Ardent ski lift (in Montriond. You will need a car to get there, or alternatively go by navette.). Lovely snow because much of this area faces north, and interesting skiing, often below the tree line.

Les Crozets – Champery – Morgins
This area is reached from Avoriaz, and leads you into Switzerland – no passport needed. Les Crozets provides wonderful skiing in January and February, but it gets a lot of sun and is barer later in the season than other areas.

Le Grand Terche – St Jean D’Aulps
This area can only be reached by car from Morzine, but it is not far away and is a very pleasant circuit, not difficult but often with smaller amounts of skiers than some of the other areas.

All these ski areas have lots of mountain restaurants where you can eat cheaply, expensively, heartily and have a snack.
